A menstrual cup or periods cup is a type of feminine hygiene product that can be used again. It’s a small in size, flexible in nature, funnel-shaped cup made of rubber or silicone material that you insert into your vagina to catch and collect period fluid basically waste blood.

These period cups can hold more blood than other methods, leading many women to use them as an eco-friendly alternative to tampons which also a feminine hygiene product. And depending on your flow of blood, you can wear a cup for up to 12 hours.

How To Use A Period Cup?

If you’re interested in using a period cup, talk with your gynecologist or your family doctor which knows about your health well. Although you can buy any of the brands online or in most stores and that’s not a very unusual thing but you’ll first have to find out what size you need because these have specific sizes.

Most period cup brands sell small and large versions that are helpful but depend on the body that on which body is it working and on the body it is not.

Smaller period cups are usually recommended for women younger than 30 years old who haven’t delivered vaginally. Larger sizes are often for those women who are over 30 years old, have given birth vaginally, or have a heavier period.

Before You Put In Your Periods Cup:

When you use a period cup for the first time, it may feel uncomfortable and unpleasant. But “making it smooth as greasing” your cup can help make the process smooth and fast.

How To Put In Period Cup:

If you can put in a tampon or some other feminine hygiene material, you should find it relatively easy to insert a menstrual cup. Just follow these steps to use a cup:

  • Wash your hands.
  • Apply water to the rim of the cup.
  • Tightly fold the menstrual cup in half.
  • Insert the cup into your vagina.
  • Rotate the cup when it is in your vagina

You shouldn’t feel your period cup if you’ve put that in the cup correctly. You should also be able to move and do other everyday activities easily. If you’re having a problem or difficulty putting in your cup, tell your doctor.

When To Take Period Cup Out:

You can wear a period cup for 6 to 12 hours, depending on whether or not you have a flow heavy or light. This means you can use a cup as overnight protection.

You should always remove your period cup by the 12-hour mark. If it becomes full before then, you’ll have to empty before it leaks.

How To Take Period Cup Out

To take out a period cup, just follow these steps:

  • Wash your hands.
  • Place your index finger and pollex into your vagina. Pull the stem of the cup softly until you can reach the base.
  • Pinch the base to free the seal and pull down to remove the cup.
  • Once it’s out, put the empty cup into the basket or toilet.
